Sarasota Film Festival - The Broadcast behind the scene.

1/3/06

45,000 patrons attended the Sarasota Film Festival in ’05 and that number is expected to increase substantially in ’06, but what happens behind the scenes?

Evolv Media for the second year was hired to design an advanced broadcasting center for Sarasota Film Festival to handle media formats from Digital Beta, Beta, DVD, DV Cam, MINI DV,. For the first time in the Sarasota Film Festival’s history the ’05 festival will include an all High Definition theater. As new High Def formats consistently emerge, understanding its revolution is a fulltime job. The Sarasota Film Festival’s inclusion of High Def broadens their reach to the filmmakers need to preserve the quality of a production. “ We are excited to bring formats such as Panasonics D5, and Sony’s HDcam to the Sarasota Film Festival” says Damen Shaqiri, president Evolv Media.

The broadcasting system Evolv Media designed controls 7 theaters from one central location the system is control via computer interface and operated by single technician, “Designing the system around state of the art technology is very exciting” says Michael Stahr, system engineer. In "05 the Sarasota Film Festival recently debuted “The Wool Cap” on High Def starring William H. Macy and directed by Stephen Schacter for its Southwest premiere at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center. With the quality of High Definition vastly improving the possibility of a filmless theater might be approaching sooner than once thought “Most of the 1,800 attendees didn’t realize they were watching a video” says Shaqiri.

Evolv Media teams with DAHfilm to produce Family Violence Documentary "Battered, Bruised, and Broken".

“Battered, Bruised and Broken” dives into family violence by talking first-hand to survivors, victims, children of family violence and experts who deal with these issues everyday. Filmmakers Debra Hussong and Damen Shaqiri joined SCOPE’s Family Violence Study Group in the fall of last year. “Making this film was an emotional journey for all of us,” says Debra. “When I joined SCOPE’s study group in September, I thought I had a fairly clear idea of how Damen and I would produce this film. After talking to over 50 people who have been affected by family violence directly or indirectly, I realize how complex and painful this issue is. It’s not a matter of the good guy/bad guy. It’s like a cancer no one wants to talk about or bring to the table.”

Battered, Bruised and Broken has been screeening at the following Film Festivals.

Point and Click Linux- DVD Tutorials

11/22/04

Fusing sophisticated screen capture technology and an eccentric personality the Point and Linux DVD tutorials were created. The DVD tutorials were produced by Evolv Media as a companion to the Point and Click Linux book written by Linux guru Roblin “Roblimo” Miller.
"Robin's book will show you the benefits of switching to Linux immediately. Your computer will run faster and more reliably than you ever believed possible. Surfing the net will no longer be an exercise in paranoia. And you'll discover a whole new world of powerful, free software that can run rings around the programs available for Windows."
